It's Spring Planting Season!

April shower bring May flowers. That means it's time for the May flowers here in Iowa! Here at Norbys Farm Fleet, we have everything you need to get your garden growing this spring to maximize your yield of flowers and vegetables.

The month of May is a prime time to plant many of the year's crops and flowers. During any time of the month you can plant any container-grown trees, shrubs, or roses; plant and divide perennial flowers; plant grass seed and lay sod; and you can divide perennials that bloom in the late summer or fall.

For many other plants, you should wait for the average final frost day to plant. For northern Iowa, the average final frost day is May 15. For southern Iowa, the average final frost day is May 10. Here are the varieties of crop and flower seedlings you may begin to plant after that date: marigolds, impatiens, petunias, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, melons, and basil. If you are planning to plant seeds, then you may begin to sow seeds of these plants: sunflowers, cosmos, zinnias, hollyhocks, cannas, elephant's ear, gladiolas, and tuberous begonias.

With this in mind, you need the tools on hand to make the planting happen! Norbys has all of the gardening tools you may need from pruners, garden rakes, hoes, hand tools, hoses, and garden gloves to tend to your garden all season long. We also stock the seeds, seedlings, and everything else you need such as soil, fertilizer, mulch, plant food, tomato cages, and more.
